25 #2 Motif # 25 Finished!!!

Ok, the project(projects I should say) isn't finished, but the challenge is. I wanted a fully finished project to post, but this week has not allowed time to do much of anything. So, here is what I have been working on and will post the finished project(s) in the new year.
These are the same motif done in 2 sizes of thread: white size 10 and Lizbeth Fruit Fizz size 40.
The pattern is here: http://www.antiquepatterns.dreamhosters.com/DMCTat.pdf
It's called Ground figure 24 Medallions.

Happy New Year Everyone! :)

25 #2 Motifs #21, 22, 23, 24....So Very Close! :)

Believe it or not, I did get some tatting done Christmas Eve. My daughter and I got 4 pies, homemade stuffing, cranberry jello salad, and housework all done early enough that I had time to rest(first time ever). But....I was restless and had a gift I needed to complete(bottom pictures here). First, I tatted this Angel Paper Clip by Ellen Lai- pattern here: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2009/ellenpclipangel.pdf .
It's done in size 3 sparkle thread(which didn't scan well). I wanted so badly to have something done in this thread! The sparkle is really quite pretty and my daughter loves this angel! I messed up somehow, but am very please that everyone knew what it was right away and they all like it!

Next is the Snowflake on a Paper Clip from Ellen Lai- pattern here: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2009/ellenpclipsnowflake.pdf
Done in the same thread.

The last thing I did in this thread was a Heart Bookmark(turned ornament for a small tree). The pattern is here: http://sharonstattedlace.blogspot.com/2006/08/heart-bookmark.html
I didn't have enough thread on the shuttle to do much with so it didn't get all the lovely picots around the outside, and it didn't end up a bookmark, but in the glittery thread my daughter said it would make a nice ornament for her small tree in her room, so I made the loop and ended it and it's hanging on her tree.

Lastly, I needed to finish this VERY quickly. My daughter collects snowglobes and has a collection of 27(now). I wanted to do one with tatting in it after seeing Kathy's here: http://kathysvictoriantattedlace.blogspot.com/2010/11/tatted-angel-in-snowglobe.html .
The Cross is from Mark Myers(tatman) the pattern is here: http://tatmantats.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/ssh_cross.pdf .
It's tatted in Lizbeth Royal Blue size 40. And this is the first one I got done correctly(ok...except one minor missed join, but I managed to cover that up well. :)

Since it didn't snow on Christmas, this had to do. :) I am a Michigander that loves my snow to complete the holiday "feeling".

Oh, yah, I almost forgot to tell you that my husband was the most excited over his Mary Konior's Large Cross bookmark(shown here:http://hiskid66.blogspot.com/2010/12/tatting-gifts-as-fast-as-possible.html)!
And my mother-in-law loved her earrings, and my niece said my sister loved hers! Sure makes it all worth it to have people appreciate it!
Thanks for all the wonderful comments and support!!!!
I made it through Christmas, and now I only have 1 more thing to tat to finish my 2nd 25 Motif Challenge and get ready for a new year!

25 #2 Motif # 20 Fancy Snowflake

When I first started tatting and was borrowing books from the library often, I had started this snowflake, but could not quite understand how to work it. I now know that it was because I had learned rings and chains, but knew nothing of working with bare threads which each point consists of. It's made with size 10 white thread and is about 6 inches across.

I wasn't sure about making any more large snowflakes until I realized that the fancy deluxe ornament hooks I bought didn't go well with the glass ornaments due to the colors of the beads on them, but they sure do dress up the larger snowflakes and will make some awesome gifts(next year)!

Tatting gifts as fast as possible

Remember the earrings I tatted for my mother-in-law(http://hiskid66.blogspot.com/2010/12/trying-to-get-tatting-time-in.html)? I was going through my notes on the requests I had and realized I messed up. She had wanted hers in blue, so.....I gave the black pair to my Pastor's wonderful wife, and got busy yesterday and made some blue ones for my mother-in-law and placed them in an origami box I just made. These are done in Lizbeth size 40 Royal Blue.

Next...my husband loves my tatting and made a complaint about the fact that everyone is getting something tatted and he has nothing, so.....here is his gift. Mary Konior's Large Cross done in size 10 Navy thread. He is still wanting a tablecloth and I am doing my best to come up with a way to make one starting in January(maybe it will be his gift next Christmas).

Trying to get tatting time in!!!

I am trying to get a million things done and not making much progress. Everything and everyone possible tends to come up with something to keep me away from what I want to do.
I had to get some different earring posts for my nieces earrings since she ended up allegeric to the ones I had used for her earrings, and she wanted the same new ones put on the pair she ordered for her mom's Christmas present, so....while out I looked for a neat box to place my mother-in-law's pair in and found this cute plain cardboard heart box and I wrapped it with my origami paper and then glued my recently tatted heart to the top. I think she will really like this.

***I could not get a decent picture no matter how hard I tried, so I picked the best(that's what I get for not waiting for daylight).
I am still working on the tatted motifs for the glass ornaments my friend requested, but as I said, that is taking forever. I am half done with the first one though....now if I could only finish it and get the second one done I can have one ornament done!

25 #2 Motif 19 Christmas motif

Believe it or not, this was actually a mistake. It was supposed to be just like one I had done previously, but this time I didn't read correctly and only made 6 rings and 6 chains in the center round and it was supposed to have been 8 of each. I thought it wasn't correct, but it came out so nice I just accepted it until I reread the directions and that explains why I thought it was just a bit small. Oh well, it gave me another motif toward the challenge. :)

25 #2 Motif # 18 Minnie's Love

Trying to finish off my 2nd 25 challenge before the end of this year.
This is Minnie's Love. A beautiful heart designed by Heather Johnston.
The pattern is here: http://hajdesigns.webs.com/Minnies%20Love.pdf

It's done in size 40 Lizbeth Lilac Dk.

Working on orders......

I wanted to try and get some of the orders(requests) done and this first one had to be done so it could be given as a Christmas gift. I even had this cute cylinder to package it in.

This second set was a personal request by my mother-in-law and I am going to give them to her for Christmas. Now I have to find packaging for them.

For those who would like to make some here is the pattern:
I used Lizbeth size 20 black thread
20MM Hammered Hoops(bought at Hobby Lobby)
Pierced Earpost w/Drop(from Hobby Lobby)[used on first pair]
Fish Hook Wire(short)(from Hobby Lobby)[used on second pair]
SR=split ring
R=ring
P=picot
DS=double stitch
Top SR- First half of stitch, picot space, second half stitch(makes picot for top join),
then 4 DS/4 DS close R.
Right arm of cross- R 4 DS, P, 4 DS close R.
Left arm of cross-(turn project around to work) R 4 DS, P, 4 DS close R, (turn work back around).
Center R- SR 4 DS/4 DS close R.
Bottom R- SR 4DS, P/4 DS close R, tie tails and cut leaving a little to cover on hoop.
Put top picot of cross into center hole in earring hoop.
Wrap one stitch on left side of top post. Join to top picot of cross on backside of hoop.
Wrap 8 stitches on right side of hoop.
Join to right side picot on cross in front of hoop, then wrap 20 more stitches to bottom of hoop.
Join to bottom picot on cross on front side of hoop.
Wrap 20 more stitches working up left side of hoop.
Join to left side picot on cross in front of hoop, then wrap 8 more stitches covering tail left from first wrap stitch.
Then tie off on back side and cut.
Then assemble earrings(I had to use jump rings to attach hoops to posts).

25 #2 Motif # 17 The Fifth Day of December

I am not sure if I tighten my chains too much or not, but it seems to me that I have trouble making things that lay flat well. This is from 24 Snowflakes in Tatting from Lene Bjorn in DMC size 80.

25 #2 Motif #16 The Second Day of December Snowflakes

I have tatted some since feeling better and around the holiday preparation and day.
I tatted 2 of Lene Bjorn's Second Day of December Snowflakes from 24 Snowflakes in Tatting. The first is done in cheap size 10 thread and the second in DMC size 80 thread. I thought the comparison would be nice especially for those here who are trying to understand me when I talk about tatting.

And to prove that tatting can make anything look better(even chocolate), here is a picture to prove it. :)

My hubby got me a 2 1/2 pound box of chocolates while I was sick, and then came home with this Wednesday night(5 pounds). I am beginning to wonder what he did wrong(if you knew him-you would understand completely, cuz' I don't usually get anything from him on a just because I was thinking about you day).
I think it looks so much better with the snowflakes, but believe me they won't be near it when the chocolate is exposed. :)
Also, while our guests were here for Thanksgiving they got to see all the snowflakes decorating my tree and these 2 new ones, and my tatting on glass ornaments and I ended up with several orders(don't know if they are paying, but not expecting). So.....I will be busy soon making 3 cross bookmarks and a pair of cross earrings for my mother-in-law, and 9 glass ornaments with tatting for a couple of friends(and some for the older couple who just got married), and another cross bookmark.

Should be working....

Yes, I have been doing a little tatting, but I was sick for 2 weeks with little brain cells(which are essential for tatting) and I will show you what I have done when I finish the second one, but........ today I am supposed to be getting the house ready for Thursday's Thanksgiving Day guests and tomorrow is cooking day, and what am I doing????? Messin' around. My daughter is wrapping gifts and I saw the curling ribbon and was so inclined to see if I could tat with it(finger tatted). I am thankful for dollar stores since it's cheap enough I felt ok to "waste" some on a whim, and my daughter said it was ok too. :D
So, here is the tatting I just did with curling ribbon. It can be done, but isn't terribly pretty, but it was fun to try. :) Happy Thanksgiving!!!! May your holiday weekend be blessed!

Ok, so I am addicted to tatting

I figured I wouldn't have time to tat this week, but I couldn't resist the urge to tat something(anything-I messed up a butterfly, but got one done while trying to empty 2 shuttles), but today I decided to try and make these for my niece so I could give them to her while we work a ministry weekend together this weekend. It took only about 2 hours to complete the pair. I will say they are not perfect, but I think she will like them.
Oh, these are done in Lizbeth size 20 black. The rings are 20mm.

I will not be able to do anymore till next week, but then I am planning on trying to finish a doily I started awhile back. And hopefully making some snowflakes and decorating some more glass Christmas ornaments(too ambitious probably).

Triangle hexagon

I love the way this is turning out! I may have to get more thread if there is any chance I want to make it bigger(and of course there is a BIG chance I want it bigger!). It is really amazing me what I will be able to do with this pattern. As I tat I keep seeing all kinds of neat stuff(which you may see in the future).

Below is a size comparison incase you decide to try it. This is Mary Konior's Spinning Wheel Glass Mat done in Lizbeth Royal Wave size 20 next to 24 triangles all connected from the DMC Library Tatting from the antique pattern library. It's PLATE IV. #23 done in Heather's(The Tarnished Tatter) HDT Harvest Time size 30. I love the autumn look and would love something quite large done in it(this may end up large if I have my way).

I may not be posting before the 2nd week of Nov. I will be busy on ministry weekends(this weekend and next) and there won't be much tatting time.
Have a great couple of weeks! :)

Something slightly modified

I wanted to make something for a friend who plays a guitar and with all the beautiful dangles I have seen by the online tatters I thought I would try something. It's actually Jon Yusoff's Melati(without beads) modified by putting a cross in the center instead of a 6 ring motif.

It's not perfect, but I believe she will like it a lot. Now I just have to make a way to hang it, but that is going to wait till tomorrow(it's has to be finished by Wed.). :)

10th Round done on Agasunset's tablecloth

So pleased...ok...time for a break from this since I won't be able to work on it for the next 2 weekends while I am away on ministry work. It is now just over 15 inches across.

12 Triangles makes a star....so far :)

I kept working on this last night and got this far.

Then today I did this.... 12 small triangles makes a star. :)
And in Heather's Harvest Time it's an autumn star. :)

Hoping there is enough thread to keep it growing. It's about 3 inches from top point to bottom point.

25 #2 Motif # 15 Diamond Triangles

I received this beautiful thread from Heather(The Tarnished Tatter). It's her HDT Harvest Time size 30. I really wanted something that would show off the beauty in the colors so I tatted this antique pattern. It's from the DMC Library Tatting from the antique pattern library. It's PLATE IV. #23. They have it in triangles, but I joined the triangles closely so that I could see as much color together as possible. I am hoping to join more and make a small doily.

Round 9 done

Still working on Agasunset's tablecloth. Round 9 now completed. It is about 14 1/2 inches across. On to round 10. I can't wait to see the finished project!

Here is a comparison for someone like me who is still new to tatting and has no clue the difference between a Clover shuttle and a Tatsy. It's a learning experience to work with such a large shuttle and without the pointed end, but I like not having to re-wind the shuttle so often with this larger thread and project.

Friday, October 15, 2010

After a bad afternoon....

It's great to find "goodies" in the mail!!!
The top section is the 2 Tatsy shuttles I got to order this week to hopefully help with tatting Agasunset's tablecloth without having to wind the shuttle quite so often. And they came with a tatted angel Christmas card, a few patterns and instructions.
The bottom front is from Heather The Tarnished Tatter. It's her 3 Hole Heart shuttles and some of her beautiful Harvest Time HDT.

My night is much brighter!!! :)

Still tatting and more crosses

Still busy tatting crosses. For some reason I felt the need to do a purple only one(Mary Konior's Large Cross), and the second was one that I made a mistake and joined a picot that I wasn't supposed to so I let it sit until yesterday when I decided I could make it work by adding a butterfly to join the other picot opposite the mistake and then join to the mistake also and I just looks like it should be there(Mary Konior's Small Cross). I am learning that butterflies are great mistake covers and they make a nice addition to the project(at least for the bookmarks so far).

The first is done in Lizbeth Lilac Dk size 40, and the second is done in Lizbeth Fruit Fizz and Lilac Dk. size 40 also.
As for the funny look of the background....it's my "professional" mistake-closing the copier lid while scanning, but I liked the outcome so I kept it. :)

Round 8 done

Working hard to get caught up on this tablecloth. I have 2 more rounds to catch up, but I am guessing by that time there will be more instructions and rounds. Right now it is just over 1 foot across. My husband is really wanting it done(I tell him to do it and see how quickly it gets done).
We have an oval table so this won't be for us, but I figured it was excellent practice! And Agasunset designs such awesome stuff I just had to try. :D

It's not blocked, just smoothed out by hand so it has a funny shape right now.

25 #2 Motif # 14

I got mad at my hubby today and put that anger into something constructive.
I bought Tatting with Rings from Jon Yusoff a little while back and finally got time to try a project. This is 1: Melati(without beads). I think it looks ok for a first time ever tatting on a ring. Thanks to Jon for such beautiful patterns to tat! Can't wait to have time to try more! This was fairly quick to tat-done in about 6 hours. And size 20 Lizbeth Caribbean thread.

Friday, October 1, 2010

Another cross

I wanted to make some more crosses and decided to do a pattern I have done several times. The only real difference is that this time it's not done in size 10 thread, it's Lizbeth size 20 Caribbean and Lilac Dk. The pattern is the Big Cross from Tatting Patterns & Designs by Gun Blomqvist & Elwy Persson. This is the first cross pattern I was able to complete and it's nice and easy for beginners-the only tricky part is in the clover joins all in the center, but full attention and it's not too bad.

70 Hearts on Paperclips

Finally all 70 are done!!!! Now, all I need to do is make the individual cards for each one.
They are done in a variety of threads....Lizbeth size 20 Caribbean, size 40 Sherbert Delight, size 40 Tropical Punch, size 40 Fruit Fizz, and Yarnplayer's size 30 Nectarine. I think they turned out pretty good and I believe the ladies that will receive them will be blessed.
You can find the pattern here: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2009/ellenpclipheart.pdf

25 #2 Motifs 12 & 13 Crosses

I have been working to get all the Hearts on Paperclips done and I have only 5 to go. I also wanted to do several crosses for some wonderful ladies I know and here are the first 2 done.
They are from Mary Konior's Tatting with Visual Patterns. The Large Cross and the Small Cross both done in Lizbeth size 40 Fruit Fizz and Lilac Dk. And added butterflies.

I am on round 8 of Agasunset's tablecloth making fairly steady progress, but still 2 rounds behind. :)

Working on Agasunset's tablecloth 6th & 7th rounds

I have been hard at work trying to keep up with Agasunset on her tablecloth. I have the 6th round done here.

And the 7th round done-just finished it.

I am still working on the Hearts on paperclips-I have 11 left to do.
I have also been working on tatted crosses for some people.

Monday, September 13, 2010

Working on Agasunset's tablecloth

First four rounds done. Messed up on a couple of joins and had to cut 2 full scallops out and restart, but I have made it this far. Can't wait to see this done, but I sure love the colors Agasunset is using. :) This is in size 10 white.

25 #2 Motif # 11 Tatted ornament cover

First of all, with all the tiny Hearts on a paperclip that I have been working on I need changes of pace so.....I started this beautiful doily from: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiiUlf3qk2eIg98RKW0efJBae56db_v2Ca3iadPeBjaL4_z4BEGJLlzMn4LvUrZ1H637YIeFQpk8kvEII4FvwKjgqO-6xpKA35IT3jYCH-EzioHTTAVhqv9sGWbWITh5vQUzcepsnKXIvU/s1600-h/ArlenesFirstPlaceWin.jpg
My daughter picked which colors I would make it in so it's Lizbeth White and Tropical Punch both size 40. Will be added to challenge when finished.

Next.....I started this awhile back and finally got it finished. It's an antique pattern from: http://antiquepatterns.dreamhosters.com/ButterickTattingNetting.pdf pg. 39 Tatted Rosette #8. And the center pieces are the "Small Square at the Top"(part of the pattern).

I took this last picture to try and show that I had to go and buy a larger ornament to fit this on because there was way too much slack on the ornaments I had, but then I had to stretch to fit and then finish tatting the last 5 center pieces right on the ornament(more than thankful that it's done!!!). This is a size 3 1/4" ornament. The thread is Lizbeth Christmas Delight size 20.
Thanks for all the wonderful comments on all my other posts! And keep on tatting because you all inspire me greatly! :)

Flying tatting shuttle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A little story......I was tatting this center for Tatting with Rings(I got the book this past weekend).

While tatting there was a little flying bug that came up near me and I went to swat at it with my tatting in hand and in progress. Well, our 22 yr. old Jessica was in the room with me when I swatted at the bug and my shuttle and project flew across the room(singlewide mobile home) hit the other wall and fell down behind this computer and desk. It was so funny that she called her dad(my hubby) and told him, and the whole time I just kept laughing. It was so funny and so unexpected!!!!
I won't be doing the actual tatting on a ring yet, it just helped me to empty a shuttle. I am working on a different project and can't wait to get it done and show you. As you can see, part of it is white. :)

Yes, I have been tatting :D

Here is what I have accomplished since Sunday. I am making these hearts to give to some ladies on a ladies retreat weekend in October. I have 20 done and need about 65, which seems totally achievable since I got 19 done in 2 days. So...a small break from these hearts for now and on to something else for a couple of days.

Today, I started a new Mary Konior Small Cross in Lizbeth size 40 Fruit Fizz thread. I had originally planned to do the outside in Lilac Dk., but there was a small mistake made in shipping and I was sent size 20, so I just used the Fruit Fizz for both rounds. And then as I was finishing the outside round, my tie off from the first round came apart so.....this is now my cross. :)

25 #2 Motif # 10 Hearts on a Paperclip

This isn't perfect, but I like it. It's a pattern from Georgia Seitz website at http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2009/ellenpclipheart.pd
Done in Lizbeth size 40 Sherbert Delight. I am going to do it again and hopefully better!

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Oooooooooo! My birthday wish is here(ok, part of it) :D

I got to get some new threads as my birthday present and here are 9 out of the 10(some how Lilac Dk. decided to avoid joining the rest of the threads on their journey here so it's on a lonesome journey of it's own to come join us. And I am waiting on a book I ordered too. I now have lots of color in my tatting life :D .

Adding a scanned picture of the last ornament done

Thanks for the wonderful comments on this even though it's hard to actually see. I was playing around and thought I might be able to scan it and here is what I have. Sunshine Craft...you were wondering about the joins......they are just regular joins. this is 2 of the same motif put together back to back and the center of the motifs are on the top and bottom of the ornament. So what you are seeing around the sides is the outside edges of the motifs joined. I had forgotten to make the first join so it is actually tied together, but I joined the next 3 or 4 and then tatted the rest on the ornament(not easy!!!) and made the last few joins on the ornament to complete it. Hope that helps avoid all the squinting to see the joins. :)

Why do I get frustrated doing rings and bare threads???

Slight teaser picture.... I will show the project when(if.....) I get it done. It seems like it would be terribly easy, but I get so tired and kind of bored doing this type of pattern, which is why my Fisherman's net doily hasn't made much progress(other than I think I would prefer a different thread to work it in). I am continuing this, but the heat and humidity are driving me crazy! :)
