I have a lot of learning to do yet!!!

I saw these very cute SSSR Angels from Anne Bruvold on several blogs and just recently on Tatting Fool's blog here: http://tattingfool.blogspot.com/ .
After reading that she had tatted the angel using regular split rings I thought I would try(I did). Hers are beautiful and mine is sad!! Oh well, I will have to try again later.
I am pretty sure I got the skirt part right, but I haven't really worked with SCMRs yet and I think that is where I messed up, but I can see the wing. :D

Have a very Merry Christmas everyone!!! :)
Thanks for all your wonderful comments and encouragement throughout this year!! :)

Doing my best to keep tatting

Of course with the holidays and regular life mixed together somethings get set aside. I have tried hard not to let tatting be one.
These snowflakes are from this link https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxKhtrg2Lz1UVUTaVIcYuXZr-03CRF8jAVnY7ZIWUNOKx7Sr77sJWKeKf7YaWjwv7VgrkdkV8c1Ybfp5MJoj7ijkJH2xcP7HwAIBq7C6yzeABwvMFNlnroAwFZO2IZ1TJAQkWkFj18-IQ/s1600/PC022879.JPG
They are tatted in Lizbeth size 40 Blue Ice and the first one(which was actually tatted second) has Petite Glass beads added for sparkle. I really like this design!!

Next, I tried to empty another shuttle by tatting Mary's Butterfly:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/69945786/My-Butterfly again. This time in size 80 DMC cotton and a metallic blending filament. I think the filament looks prettier on the spool, but it needs to be used. And my daughter wants me to tat a snowflake in it. Also, you can't see it, but....the filament broke at one spot and one of the back rings is only half colored, but the top rings cover it nicely. :) **Oops!! Now looking at the picture it looks like I got sidetracked and messed up my stitch count on the top left ring-oh well, most won't notice it. :)

A break from butterflies

This is The Fourth Day of December Snowflake from 24 Snowflakes in Tatting by Lene Bjorn. It's tatted in size 80 DMC cotton thread, and has Czech glass beads added.

The Christmas light garland doesn't light up, but it adds some color. :)

Oh my goodness!

I have tons of catching up to do on reading the blogs!!! I spent the weekend entertaining my 3yr. old granddaughter and that kept me more than busy!!!
I have been asked what I would do with my butterflies
(Mary's Butterflies: http://www.scribd.com/doc/69945786/My-Butterfly )
I have explained that they could go on lots of things, but here is what I have done so far.
The first is the Lizbeth Rainbow Taffy size 40 butterfly on a pink stretchy headband,
the second is Heather's(The Tarnished Tatter)HDT Harvest Time size 30 on a brown stretchy headband,
the third is Tatskool's Rainbow Bright size 100 on a white stretchy headband,
and then I have 2 done in YarnPlayers Corsage(one I goofed, but made it work),
and one extra Rainbow bright. And size comparisons for those curious. :)
The first headband is already sold and gone to my friend for her great niece. :)

Link to Mary's butterfly pattern

http://www.scribd.com/doc/69945786/My-Butterfly
This is for those who couldn't find it. :)
Have fun tatting this one!!!
I have to sit at the hospital most of the day tomorrow and I have 3 or 4 shuttles ready for butterfly tatting! And I sold one stretchy little girls headband with the Rainbow Taffy butterfly on it. :)

Can't stop tatting Mary's Butterfly :)

I tried to post last night, but it wouldn't upload my picture.
I tatted a size 40 Lizbeth Tropical Punch butterfly.

Today, I had to take a friend for pre-surgery testing and while I was there I decided to tat another butterfly in Yarnplayer's Corsage size 40 HDT. And a man there waiting saw me and said I had a lot more patience than him. And he told me that his mom used to tat edging for tablecloths, pillowcases, curtains, and clothes. And then a lady came and asked what I was making and I showed her the last 2 butterflies and she asked what I would do with them and I said they could be sewn on clothes or stretchy headbands or whatever. And she said that her granddaughters would love them. Well, before I left I gave her the 2 butterflies and she almost wouldn't take them, but she now has a gift for each of her granddaughters and a little knowledge of tatting. :)

Apparently addicted :D

Can't help but tat this butterfly!!! This one is done in size 40 Lizbeth Peacock Blues. I am emptying shuttles tatting these wonderful butterflies and coming up with ideas of how to use them, like on little girls headbands. :)

Guess I had better get back to finishing the order of 6 tatted ornaments before time runs out. :) I have 3 completed and one almost done so that leaves 2 to finish.

Love this Butterfly!!! :)

I really could not resist doing this butterfly again!!! This time it's done in size 100 Rainbow Bright HDT from Tatskool. I love how beautiful these are!!! :) Thanks so much to Mary for sharing her pattern! :)

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motifs 22,23,24,&25

Wow! I was actually able to get 25 done for the challenge this year. I have done other things, but I don't like to count repeats.
I tatted some motifs to put in photo coasters for a Christmas present.

First is Mary Konior's Queen of Hearts from Tatting with Visual Patterns in size 100 Rainbow Bright HDT from Tatskool. (I messed up a chain in this-shhhhh) #22

Next: Mary Konior's Posy from Tatting with Visual Patterns in size 40 Lizbeth Fruit Fizz. (I messed up the joins in this-shhhhh) #23

Next: Tatted Cross by Mark Myers in size 40 Lizbeth Lilac Dk. (I left out 2 rings in this-shhhh)

--this is a repeat so it's not counted

Next: Knobby Snowflake from Christmas Angels and Other Tatting Patterns by Monica Hahn in size 40 Lizbeth Rainbow Taffy and Lemon Yellow. (I think I didn't mess this up, but it's just slightly large for the coaster). #24

Last: I just tatted this this morning. I saw it on Mary's site:

http://maryshandmade.blogspot.com/2011/10/acum-e-randul-vostru.html
and hers are gorgeous!!! She posted the pattern and I couldn't wait to try it.

It's done in size 40 Lizbeth Rainbow Taffy. It's so very pretty, but not quite as awesome as Mary's. :)

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motif #21

I have been busy tatting, but life interrupts more than I care for.
This first project is a Christmas present for my mother-in-law. It's from Elegant Tatting Patterns by Janet Carroll. The pattern is Grandmother's lace tatted in size 40 Lizbeth Rainbow Taffy.

The next projects are ornaments. I tried to get these done for a sale for my mother-in-law, but I didn't get them to her, so the one in front goes to a friend who would like 6 of them for his Christmas tree. And the other...who knows?.

Also, we took a "road trip" last weekend and I added 5 more motifs to the tablecloth, and we have a couple more "road trips" in the plans and I hope to have more added each trip. :)

Tablecloth progress

I have worked here and there on the tablecloth for my husband. And yesterday and this morning I have done some more. It is now 35 inches in length. My husband loves it and says he realizes this will take quite awhile, but he loves it.
This first view makes it look like a thin tablerunner.

This second view shows it on the table.

This third view shows how much is done, but......how much is still to be done. :)

And it will be set aside again because my mother-in-law called yesterday requesting I make some ornaments so that she can put them in a sale in her apartment building in the beginning of October. Not sure if I will have anything, but I am going to try.

Have a great day everyone!!! :)

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motif #20

I started a doily from a book I had borrowed from the library, but didn't get anywhere near finished when I finally had to "reluctantly" take the book back. I loved the center and kept it as a motif to be used later. Well...later finally made it and here is the motif.
It's from Traditional Tatting Patterns Edited by Rita Weiss(although, I can't remember the name of the doily), and it's tatted in size 40 Celery HDT from YarnPlayer

I decided I wanted to display it since I really love it, so I put it inside a photo coaster. Now it can sit out and not get destroyed. :)

Glass ornament

My friend saw the ornaments I did last year when she joined us for Thanksgiving and she requested this one, so....for the last long while on and off I have worked to make her one. The first one was very stretched and so I thought I would improve it by adding more rings and one more center diamond, but I miscounted and had an extra set of rings to deal with, so I found a cute angel charm and tatted it into the empty space. I know the picture isn't great quality, but scanning wasn't an option. :)
The pattern is from the antique library Butterick Tatting and Netting No. 8 Tatted Rosette. It's tatting with Lizbeth size 20 Christmas Delight.

Trouble commenting on blogs!!

I have tried to comment on many blogs for the past 2 days to tell you all how wonderful everything is, but....it tells me I am not logged in or that I am not allowed to view the page(which is coming directly from my dashboard reading list). I hope it clears up soon!!!
For those who I follow their blog: You are all doing some amazing and wonderful things! I wish I could comment on your posts, but until it lets me comment again I will let you know here.

Tatting Fool: Your ornament is awesome and it reminds me of fancy windows! :)

Fox: Your Galuh is beautiful! :)

Gina: Your plate 2 figure 13 looks great and I like the look of that design! :)

Jane: Neat shark! :)

Martha at Transmutacje: Great bookmark! :)

Umi&Tsuru: Your Fleur de Lis are beautiful and great colors! :)

Jon from Tat-a-renda: Your star is gorgeous!!! :)

Yarnplayer: Your Newcastle necklace in earthy colors is fabulous!!! :) It looks so autumn like that I could see a leaf charm hanging in the center for autumn. :)

Eliz at Tatknot: I love your Purple River Dancers bracelet and earrings! Great colors! :)

**Well, that covers everyone I have tried to comment to so far. Hope you all have a great day!! :)

No tatting to show, but I have been tatting :)

I have been busy working on the tatted ornaments I promised my friends and will post them when they are done(that will be awhile), and some on the tablecloth for my husband(which has a very long way to go), and a small start to a doily which will become a motif instead since the book with the pattern had to return to the library.
BUT.....I have been getting in trouble today on my "girls day out" with my friend and 21 yr. old daughter. We went to several craft stores and I spent money----on......

Tatting items or accessories. Quite a few for future projects, but I just wanted them today. :)

Also, I had planned when we moved here that the couch wouldn't get attacked by tatting supplies and projects, but..... as you can see, I am going to have to force my tatting to obey the rules or erase the rules to allow the tatting to have it's way. :)

Thanks so much for all the compliments and comments on my posts! You are all so wonderful and encouraging as well as inspirational! I sure hope my tatting becomes as wonderful as all the wonderful things I see on the blogs! :)

Still tatting

Same Cross Bookmark as the last, but done with Lizbeth size 40 Lilac Dk. with the size 50 Fushia HDT from LadyShuttlemaker. I have finished off my Fushia so...this ended up having a shorter bottom to the cross. The pattern has 6 motifs in the bottom of the cross and this ended up with 4. I think it looks pretty good. :)

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motif #19

This is the Saturn Ring Doily from Traditional Tatting Patterns edited by Rita Weiss. It's tatted in Lizbeth size 40 Lilac Dk.

A friend of ours has been staying with us for the past couple of weeks and he has watched this from beginning to end and has been amazed.
It's too big for the scanner as you can see, but most of it fit so I figured since it would give a much better picture than my camera I would use it.

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motif #18

Well...I have gotten some tatting done worth showing. I really love this Cross Bookmark from Traditional Tatting Patterns Edited by Rita Weiss. It's tatted in size 40 Celery HDT from YarnPlayer, and size 50 Fushia from LadyShuttlemaker. These colors are so gorgeous together and I love this cross so much I am keeping it for me. :)

Here it is with a black background to show off the colors a bit more. *Oh, the only thing I didn't do was the tassel and cord in the pattern.

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motif #17

I have tatting to show!!! :)
Since our move I have gotten a little tatting done. Here is Mary Konior's Asters edging from Tatting with Visual Patterns on a headband. It's tatted in Lizbeth size 40 Juicy Watermelon with red beads. The only change I made in the pattern was using extra long picots to make joins and to create ends for it.(I think it's actually prettier in real life).

Here is a view showing the stretchy headband I used.

I checked out a book at the library called Traditional Tatting Patterns edited by Rita Weiss and found a beautiful square doily I wanted to try. It's called Filigree Scroll. I only got the center done, but I was trying to loosen my stitches a bit and I don't like the result of the center so I will have to try again. I love the color choices I made though. They are both HDTs :size 40 Celery by YarnPlayer, and size 50 Fushia by LadyShuttlemaker-AWESOME colors!!!

Note: anyone looking for tablecloth patterns to tat....I found 2 in this book and they are gorgeous! :)

No tatting to show which bums me out, but....

I just wanted to let everyone know that I hate to post without tatting(that's just me), but I need to say that I don't think there will be tatting for about a month. We have just gotten a new place to live and have 3 weeks to get everything packed and moved. I don't know if I will get to check the blogs in that time either so....I may have tons of catching up to do after I get things liveable.
Thanks for all the wonderful comments!!! May you all have a blessed month while I am possibly absent. :)
Keep tatting!

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motif #16

I spent most of Sunday working on adding more length to the tablecloth I am working on for my husband. I was able to get 12 more motifs added. It doesn't look like much, but it did add about 8 or 9 more inches to the length.
Yesterday afternoon I was bored and wanted something to do so I ended up doing this sweet little snowflake called the Cloverleaf Snowflake from Tatted Snowflakes by Vida Sunderman in Lizbeth size 40 Snow White. It's a fairly easy snowflake and It's so pretty! :)

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motif #14

Finally Finished! It's crazy that it has taken me quite awhile to get this little 5 inch doily done, but that's what I get for straying from project to project. :)
It's done in Lizbeth size 40 Fruit Fizz thread. It's an antique pattern found here: http://www.antiquepatterns.dreamhosters.com/DMCTat.pdf Ground (figure 24) Medallions

I also got this ornament done for a friend who requested it. It's done in size 10 red and size 10 white thread. The pattern is from Elegant Tatting Patterns by Janet Carroll pg. 28 #3. I stiffened the picots with fabric stiffener so hopefully it will store nicely.

Thank you very much everyone for all the thoughts and prayers. Things are seeming to calm down a bit and as you can see I am getting some tatting accomplished(yeah!!!). May you all be blessed!!! :)

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Still here, just getting back to tatting.

This is just a glimpse of what I am working on other than the doily with all the flowers around the outer edge. I will show this when it's completed and you can't see those strings(but there will be more flowers).

I just wanted to let you know that I haven't been able to tat for 3 weeks.
I had all my teeth removed for health reasons, then our college daughter ended up extremely sick for 2 weeks and then got well enough to make her graduation then she got very sick again for another week. And our oldest daughter's family(with our 2 granddaughter's ended up extremely sick), then our 11 year old "niece"(actual cousin but young enough to be niece) passed away on Mother's day due to an illness she was born with called EB(don't know the actual words, except that it's a real long term).
So, here I am again and hopefully things will calm down now!

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motif #13

Here is what I call the Double Heart Headband.
If you look carefully you can see hearts right side up and upside down. The pattern is nice and fairly easy too. I made it for my granddaughters.
It's from this page: http://vilushka.ru/kruzhevo.html listed as Two-tone lace "Hearts".
It's tatted in Lizbeth size 40 Rainbow Taffy. I love it with the light blue headband.
Troubles attaching it has caused some dark spots in the thread from superglue, but it's sewn on because the superglue would not hold. My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter didn't know the difference and loves it, but I wouldn't mess with the superglue again. :)

Here is the youngest granddaughter modeling it(after several goof-off pictures).

The oldest granddaughter has the other one, but I wasn't able to get a picture modeled. Oh, well.

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motif 12

This is a headband for my granddaughters made from a stretchy headband and Jane Eborall's Fandango Edging-pattern here: http://www.janeeborall.freeservers.com/Edging2011.pdf I thought up many different ways to do the ends, but I ended up with just tatting a chain of 10 stitches and kept them a little loose to complete the ends.
It's tatted in Lizbeth size 20 Lilac Dk. and size 20 Iris Bouquet from Crochet4U2Dye4, and tiny purple beads.

Just tatting :)

This is a slightly interesting post. This is my past tatting student/niece(she quit tatting). She is wearing my 25th anniversary gift(which my husband got, but they didn't fit at all correctly-I think they were made for teens). Well, they were monogrammed with my name on the lower left corner of the shirt, so.....I cleverly covered the monogram with 2 tatted snowflakes which look similiar to the one on the front of the shirt. They are tatted in Tatskool's Coral Reef size 40. The snowflake pattern is Beaded Snowflake(altered a little bit to exclude beads) from Tatted Snowflakes by Vida Sunderman. Well, at least they will be appreciated. :D

Bracelet Recipient: Lelia

Lelia, Please e-mail me your where you would like me to send your bracelet Hiskid66 @ msn . com (without spaces). Thanks to everyone who left comments! I really appreciate all the wonderful things everyone says. I have learned a lot this first year of tatting and am looking forward to continuing to learn more. And I really love seeing everyone else's work on the blogs! There are a lot of talented and creative people out there! :)

2011: 25 Motif Challenge- Motif #11

Happy International Tatting Day!!! I have been busy tatting this edging from Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior. It's called Chain Reaction and is tatted in Lizbeth size 20 Royal Wave. The first edging I did was all rings, and this one is all chains. :) I love how it's turning out! I ordered some more threads recently and they are all here now. The top is from Crochet4U2Dye4 cotton embroidery thread in Spring, Summer, and Winter collections. I don't know if I will order again though cuz' this second order came totally smoke scented and I am airing them out hoping to be able to use them without feeling sick. The middle is Lizbeth Juicy Watermelon, Rainbow Taffy, and Peacock Blues. And the bottom is Yarnplayer's HDT's Celery and Snowflake. Ooooooh, what neat things these should make!!! :)
Have an awesome weekend everyone!!!

Can't wait to announce the recipient of the bracelet tomorrow! :)
