So excited!!! My newest tatting student is doing really well!!!

My friend, Cheryl, found out that I am a tatter and told me that she had some things she got somewhere and she didn't know what they were or how to use them. She had tried to learn somehow and wasn't able to succeed. Well, I told her I would be glad to show her what I have learned and we started lessons. We started with rings. She tried to practice, but was having trouble getting more than 2 stitches to come out well. She had a "light-bulb" moment one night just before falling asleep and then tried it in the morning and called me all excited!!! She had made several rings. Well, today she came for a cookout and insanity(that's what it is when our group get together), and while they played UNO on one end of the table, we tatted at the other end. She showed me her rings so please to have gotten it. They were rings, but all crazy-like. Bad tension, very loose stitches, bumpy and crazy looking, but they were rings! Well, I told her to just work on trying to get her stitches next to each other and smooth looking. So after about 10 minutes they looked much better and we moved on to making picots with a picot gage. She mastered that very quickly!!! And she made several rings 5p5p5p5. I was so proud of her and she very extremely proud!!! Then we went on to joining those rings with the new picots. Here is her end effort and she can't stop smiling and showing everyone her progress!!! It's a drastic difference from what she came with. Yay Cheryl!!!! I will introduce her to the blogs next month.

And....she and I are concocting an idea using tatting so I will do my best to keep you posted on that. :)

2012 25 Motif Challenge: Motif #19

Here is the Five-Pointed Star from Christmas Angels and Other Tatting Patterns by Monica Hahn. Tatted in size 20 Blue Ice.

It cupped a little in the center and I am going to try and tame that, but I don't know if I will tat this one again. I needed to pay close attention since every ring changes stitch count, and it was a bit frustrating doing the joins in the center. I also did the shoe lace trick because the book said shuttle and ball, yet they wanted you to use the ball as a shuttle and do the thrown off rings(I think that is correct since it doesn't say that in the pattern). It's pretty enough(bad to scan on white background, but I am being a bit lazy tonight). :)

New threads and books!! :) So Happy!!! Oh, and a touch of tatting. :)

First are the new threads and tons of excitement!!!
These are all from Jess at http://jess-tats.blogspot.com/
First is size 40 Queen Anthias, next is size 40 Kaleidoscope, next is size 40 Fairie Dust(she actually used the name I suggested-how awesome is that?!), and next is Jess' attempt at a suggestion of confetti(I don't think I actually explained my thoughts right so...I will have to do that, but the colors are nice and I am going to use it for something)! And lastly, Jess sent some really awesome square buttons with colors that seem to go awesome with either of the first 2 threads!!! Can't wait to get some time to work with these!!!

I tried to show the multi-colors in the buttons the best I could here.
I also got some new books which I haven't gotten around to showing till now. Up and Tat 'Em by Marilee Rockley, Heirloom Treasures in Tatting from Annie's Attic, and Tatted Doilies by Iris Niebach. Lots of new things to play with-yet....lots of things already in progress, or on the list!!!
And I have been doing some tatting. I started the top star here and messed up on the first 2 arms, so I cut them off and will start again. And then my granddaughter insisted that she had to have the Five-Pointed Star in Lizbeth Blue Ice-so...as you can see, grandma couldn't say no! :)

And, I have a new student of tatting!!! (Not my granddaughter-yet)My friend, Cheryl. She has learned rings and we will work on picots, then chains. She is very eager to learn. I will post pictures when I can, but we aren't able to get together often(yet!). :)

2012 25 Motif Challenge: Motif #18

This is one of those patterns which I saw when I first started tatting and I really wanted to tat it. I am glad I waited, and I really like it. It's Band-Aid Heart by Vicki Clarke and the pattern link is here: http://victats.blogspot.com/2009/11/bandaid-heart.html
This is tatted in size 10 Lizbeth Latte Foam, and the heart is done in size 40 Lizbeth Raspberry Pink Med.(which I slightly enlarged the size since I was using much smaller thread.

I have a cute plan for it and will show you later. :)

Just something to show. :)

Here is what my mother-in-law did with the 5 tatted suncatchers she got from me. Pretty neat idea! She says the sun makes them sparkle in the day time, and the lamp make them sparkle at night when it's turned on. :)
This is Sue Hanson's Val's Suncatcher:  http://freespace.virgin.net/bo.hanson/Tatting/CrystalRing/CrystalsRing.html

She just put large paperclips(not very decorative, but she doesn't mind), on the ends and clipped them to the bottom edge of her lampshade. I am glad she really enjoys them and the other ladies in her apartment building are jealous and really like it(makes me worry a bit). :)

2012 25 Motif Challenge: Motif #17

These are Treble Clef dangles for a couple of guitar players I know. The pattern is from LadyShuttleMaker and the link is here: http://freepdfhosting.com/c15c92ad6e.pdf
The first one is tatted in size 10 rainbow thread. And the second is tatted in size 40 Rainbow-licious. These were tatted awhile back, but I had no way to display them on their own.

2012 25 Motif Challenge: Motif #16

This is the Swirl Snowflake from Tatted Snowflakes by Vida Sunderman. It's tatted in size 100 Rainbow Bright HDT from Tatskool. I loved the look of this design and I figured I would like it best in colors, so....I decided I wanted rainbow and this is the only rainbow color thread I have left, and since I love the colors I used it. It's for a Christmas gift which will be posted later. :)
